The location is great: right at the walls of the fort yet feels like a safe haven. The staff are very friendly and communicative, always helping wherever and whenever they can. The restaurant on top of the hotel has fantastic views and serves great vegetarian food. If you need a break from Indian cuisine, you’ll love their pizza. They have two sweet small dogs on the property that are very friendly. For those who speak Spanish, they even have staff who speak it perfectly.

Great customer service - welcoming staff at the front desk and both food service areas. Comfortable and clean room and quite walkable to surrounding sites in Jaisalmer.

This is a very easy review to write:  1st gate is 1st class!  The hotel is graded as a 3 star, but it most definitely has the charm, service, location and customer care of any (of the many) 5 star hotels in which we have stayed in our travels to India. Jaisalmer is a special city, small and 'human-sized', built of glorious golden sandstone; rising handsomely out of the desert. 1st gate is the perfect place to explore its magical backstreets, full of intricately carved houses and airy havelis.  The hotel is built in a just such a traditional style and sits in a prime location, right opposite the majestic fort, which provides an unforgettable backdrop for the excellent dining at the rooftop restaurant. The interior is carefully designed to reflect the traditional colours and fabrics of the area and is a pleasure to return to after a busy day of exploration - in the city or in the desert beyond it. The staff are the crowning glory here. Manish has created a lovely hotel and Peter is a first class manager. Nothing is too much trouble. His recommendation for a half day tour to the desert was spot-on, including the thoughtful gift of a lunch to ensure we were well prepared. Water bottles are handed out every time you leave the building; a picnic lunch for our onward flight was another charming element of customer care. The hotel is very well located. The decoration is nice, but needs refreshing. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice rood top.

One of the best properties I’ve stayed at in India - possibly anywhere. The location is great right next to the fort. The property is stunning - it feels like a luxurious resort while still keeping an authentic charm, staff was excellent!

Friendly, attentive staff who genuinely go the extra mile. They even packed sandwiches for our onward trip, which was such a thoughtful touch. The restaurant is excellent, honestly the best food we had anywhere in Rajasthan, and the views are just as impressive. We had a small issue with the first room, which they handled well by upgrading us to a fort-view room. Breakfast is extraordinary, and the in-room snacks were a nice bonus. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful throughout, sometimes almost too attentive, but always well-intentioned and eager to help. The non touristic safari arranged was fine overall, though details around the format and logistics could have been more clearer

Good view to the fort from the room. Great breakfast - and complementary tea etc. Staff was helpful - my mother was not feeling a little under the weather - and they arranged for room service etc.

Peter and his staff were very attentive and so welcoming. This made our stay really exceptional. The rooftop restaurant was definitely a favorite spot to eat and to relax.

The style and the how clean it was

The property is 2 minutes walking to the fort so the location cannot be exceeded. The best part for me was the staff. They were friendly, and accommodating and made me feel so welcome.

Everything. The location is incredible, the hotel facilities are super charming, comfortable and nicely decorated and the staff and their attention to detail was superb. They helped us with any request we had, and even volunteer to help with things we didn’t ask. The food at the restaurant was the best we had in Jaisalmer, and the rooftop terrace was the perfect spot to rest during the hot hours of the day. They made hour honeymoon an unforgettable experience!

The hotel is perfectly located near the fort, with a stunning view from the rooms and from the rooftop terrace. The place is decorated with taste and feeling very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and caring about its customers. It also feels like the staff enjoys working there (which is uncommon in India) and it gives a very good atmosphere. The hotel manager M. Pankaj is making you feel at home and is also a government guide so no need to look outside. Overall, an exceptional experience in a beautiful city

Relaxing stay, in prime location, with the best staff. Comfortable and spacious rooms, though a bit noisy because of the roof terrace above, but nothing much. Very supportive during our recovery when we got there ill. Perfect interior styling and good Italian food.

An oasis of calm in a well located spot by the fort. Staff go out of the way to be helpful and make friendly gestures. It’s a very well designed base to eat, drink, exercise and chill out in. Rooms are lovely and the terrace has a great view. Very good value for money. Would highly recommend!

The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect location. The rooms are very nice and big. The food is very good, from breakfast to afternoon cakes and dinner on the rooftop. The manager Peter is very kind and professional, he's always attentive to everything and caring. He does his best so that the guests feel happy and like staying at home.

The staff were absolutely amazing, special thanks to "Peter" for making our stay so great. They all went above and beyond for us including giving us snack bags and providing a free taxi and letting us use facilities after we had checked out! The place itself is gorgeous, rooms amazing and clean and the food is great. Gym and pool a nice touch too

The best hotel of our honey moon ! Perfectly located in front of the fort, with an amazing rooftop, well decorated and a swimming pool ? The staff is taking well care of their clients : dropping at the train station, organising the trip on the desert; preparing picnic for our train, offering a shower after the desert night - so professional and caring !

A really lovely, calm place, beautiful design, with cool courtyards on multiple levels and modern spin on traditional architecture - all in golden sandstone. Nice big room and bathroom, very comfortable bed. Wonderful staff who went the extra mile to look after us. Great rooftop restaurant - better than the places we went out to. Fabulous massage too!

This was easily one of the best hotels we have stayed in in all of our travels. The staff go above and beyond here and make you feel at home so easily. The room was lovely and the facilities great. The breakfast was delicious and it's great to have free tea and coffee throughout the day. The staff really looked after us after a couple of transport mishaps and our safety was their primary concern. A big thank you to Pankaj and the team...there is no better place to stay in Jaisalmer!
